MY FAVOURITE LINKS

Sharon Jacobsen (photo)A collection of links that I either find useful or entertaining. Most are connected to my work although some are listed for no other reason than to let you know that they exist - just because I like them.

Useful For Writers

The Writer's Portal - a huge collection of useful resources and tools for writers. Believe me, if you're a writer you really NEED to have this one in your bookmarks.

Guide to Grammar & Writing - need I say more?

NationMaster - a huge source of statistics on everything and anything. You can browse this place for hours without getting any real work done!

Direct Gov - find information on UK public services from benefits, taxes and managing debt to identity theft, the prison service and the legalities of buying and selling a vehicle. A very useful research resource.

Dictionary.com - in my opinion this is the best dictionary/thesaurus on the web!

Ask Oxford - search the Compact Oxford English Dictionary online and get answers to questions on English, language, grammar, spelling, quotations, and usage.

Ideas4writers.co.uk - a website that's simply oozing information and advice for writers of both fiction and non-fiction. Well worth a visit.

Hold The Front Page - full of news and ideas for reporters, journalists, photographers, freelancers and just about anybody else involved in the non-fiction writing business.

1st Headlines - breaking news from around the world.

Writer's Encyclopedia - find definitions to writing related jargon. What is plagiarism? What are secondary sales? An excellent resource for those new the writing industry and worth a look for those who've been around for a while, too.

The Journalists' Forum - meet other freelancers for support and networking.

National Union of Journalists - the union of journalists in Great Britain and Ireland

Freelance UK - contains important information for the freelancer including tax advice, and general information about running your own business. Worth a look if you're just starting out and aren't sure about the financial side of things, especially.

Wikipedia - an encyclopedia that's different to the rest. Wikipedia is written and edited by the readers themselves. With over 500,000 entries, this is definitely a resource worth having in your bookmarks.

Ezine Articles - a useful way for writers to promote themselves. Just upload a few articles that you'd like freely distributed to ezines and websites and let the site do the rest. With your bio at the bottom of each article, you can tell 'the world' about your services.

Miscellaneous Sites That You Might Like To Know About

Charity Choice - an encyclopedia of charities on the Net. Why not donate your time or expertise? There's always somebody who needs what you can offer.
